About

What is the Microcredit Challenge?

The microcredit challenge is simple: your team has one week, $100 and only the limits of its own creativity to create as much social change and raise as much money as possible.

The Microcredit Challenge is a one week competition where Global Agents funds competing teams of 2-5 members with $100 “microloans”. Teams have one week to use their entrepreneurial skills to raise as much money and create as much social change as possible using only this original loan.

At the end of the week the loan and proceeds are paid back to The Global Agents Catalyst Initiative, which are funds used to help developing world entrepreneurs pull themselves and their families out of poverty.

Teams will be given an opportunity to present their innovative ideas to a panel of Global Agents Executives who will then decide the winners. The categories for awards will include most innovative and most money raised. There will also be an after party to follow to celebrate and have a good time!

This event is open to all university and college students in the Vancouver area. So invite your friends and register today!

When is it?

The Microcredit Challenge is taking place from March 10-17, 2011.

The competition will begin downtown on March 10, 2011 at the Global Agents Head Office in front of the steam clock in Gastown. Here, students will pick up everything they need to make the challenge happen.

Teams will submit their final packages on March 17, 2011 at the Global Agents head office.

There will be group presentations taking place the weekend following the competition and will take place at SFU Harbor Center. Teams will have a chance to present what they have done and awards will be handed out at this time. Immediately following this will be an after party taking place at a trendy lounge in downtown Vancouver.

So let your inner entrepreneur come out and let your creative side take over!

What is Microcredit?

Microcredit works by extending small, trust-based loans to impoverished entrepreneurs unable to obtain credit through traditional means. Rather than a one-time handout, micro lending has the ability to help entrepreneurs from developing regions grow and sustain their businesses over the long run. This concept was recognized with the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

Why should you join the challenge?

Three big reasons:

1) Because no-one chooses to live in poverty. The Microcredit Challenge makes a significant impact in the fight against global poverty.

2) Because it is something you can be really proud of. The Microcredit Challenge enables students to stand up together and make a tangible difference in the lives of people around the world.

3) Because it’s loads of fun! You will be joining fellow students for a worthy cause and will meet individuals who have dedicated themselves to fight global poverty.
